How To Win with Your Summer Display

Summer is one of the few times in the retail calendar where displays can drive immediate sales. When the weather turns, shoppers are not browsing, they are reacting. That makes visibility, simplicity and relevance far more important than range alone. In this article we’re going to look at how to create a summer display that wins, built around moments and lifestyle.

BBQ

Barbecue is rarely a single-item purchase. Shoppers are thinking in combinations: charcoal, meat, buns, sauces, drinks and snacks. Displays that bring these elements together tend to outperform those that keep them separate. Even a small, focused BBQ section can drive larger baskets by removing the need to walk the store, and prompt additional impulse purchases – like a sauce or side.

Cold Drinks

Chilled drinks are often the first thing shoppers look for in warm weather, and one of the most impulse-driven purchases in store. Retailers should ensure their fridges are well stocked, with POS showcasing new, interesting drinks. In addition, secondary placements near the entrance or along the main customer path are also key and can often outperform the main chiller, particularly for single-serve drinks. As a retailer, you should also consider whether you’re happy to or have means to top up people’s reusable bottles as this has been a point of contention in the past.

Ice Cream

Ice cream is highly weather-led and almost entirely impulse-driven. Freezers that sit within the main flow of the store consistently perform better than those placed at the back. Clear signage, strong visibility and easy access all make a difference.

The Entrance Matters Most

The entrance is often the most underused space in store, particularly during summer.

This is where shoppers decide what kind of shop they are about to have – even if they already have something in mind, a strong entrance display can hold a big influence on their first move.

Visually, the most effective displays feel fresh, bright and full. Clear pricing, strong colour blocking and well-stocked fixtures all help create that sense of abundance. A great summer display is not about being overly creative, it’s about being relevant and well-stocked, and reactive to ensure you’re ready the minute the weather turns.
